In darts, players aim to score points by hitting specific areas on a dartboard, aiming for the highest score over set rounds or legs.
The Dartboard:
A standard dartboard is divided into numbered sections (1-20) with a central bullseye. It’s typically made of durable sisal fibers.
Gameplay Basics:
- Scoring: Each numbered section has a point value. Hitting the outer ring (doubles) doubles the points, and the inner ring (triples) triples them. The bullseye’s outer ring is worth 25 points, while the inner bullseye is worth 50.
- Game Start: Each player starts with a score (e.g., 501 or 301) and takes turns reducing it to zero.
- Rounds: Players throw three darts per turn, deducting their score each round. To win, players must hit zero with a double or the bullseye.
- Checkouts: Players finish by hitting a double or the bullseye, reaching exactly zero to win the leg or game.
- 180 Market: A perfect score of 180 is often referred to as "three triple twenties" or simply a "maximum." This is because the highest score achievable with three darts is 60 points per dart, and hitting triple twenties with all three darts results in a total of 180 points.
The game continues until the predetermined number of legs or target score is achieved.
