Beach volleyball: Basic Rules

Beach volleyball is played between two teams of two players, aiming to score by sending the ball over the net into the opponent's court. The first team to win the most sets, typically by reaching 21 points with a two-point lead, wins the match.

Court:
The game is played on a 16x8 meter sand court divided by a net (2.43m high for men, 2.24m for women). Boundary lines mark the court's edges.

Gameplay:
The game starts with a serve, followed by a rally. Teams work together using passing, setting, and spiking to score points. Players can use any part of their body, but must avoid catching or holding the ball. Each team can touch the ball up to three times before returning it. Players do not rotate positions, but switch sides after each set.

Scoring and Match Format:
Points are earned when the ball lands in the opponent's court or they commit a fault. The match is typically best-of-three sets, with the first team to win two sets declared the winner.
