Boxing: Basic Rules

Boxing's main goal is to win by scoring more points or achieving a knockout. Two fighters use their fists to strike each other within a regulated ring.

The Boxing Ring:
Matches are held in a square or rectangular ring, usually 16 to 20 feet per side, surrounded by ropes for safety.

Basic Rules and Gameplay:

  • Rounds: Matches consist of several 3-minute rounds (amateur rounds may be shorter) with 1-minute breaks in between.
  • Scoring: Points are earned by landing clean punches to the head or body, with judges evaluating punch quality, defense, and ring control.
  • Knockouts: A knockout happens when a fighter can't rise after being knocked down, while a technical knockout (TKO) is called when the referee stops the fight.
  • Fouls: Illegal actions, like low blows or headbutting, result in penalties or point deductions.
  • Weight Classes: Fighters compete in weight divisions, ranging from flyweight (112 lbs) to heavyweight (over 200 lbs).
  • Protective Gear: Fighters wear gloves, mouthguards, and headgear (for amateurs) for safety.
